SPRINGING INTO ACTION FOR THE SPRINGVALE COMMUNITY
The local community will enjoy new public recreation spaces and sporting facilities in the heart of Springvale, thanks to a $513,000 boost from the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Keysborough Martin Pakula today announced the City of Greater Dandenong was the successful recipient of the grant through the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The funding will go towards the sport and recreation component of the Springvale Community Precinct, with the City of Greater Dandenong contributing $4.9 million towards the project.
The Springvale Community Precinct will involve a mix of sport, recreation, open space and landscape features including:
- Children’s play space with play equipment, including water play
- A multi-use sports court, viewing area, seating and fencing
- Table tennis table, foosball table and four square courts
- Central plaza with interconnected path network throughout the site
- Central civic green with grassed open space, tree planting and gardens
- Picnic tables and BBQ facilities
- Supporting infrastructure including bike racks, drinking fountain, signage and rubbish bins
The Springvale Community Precinct will also support a range of organised activities such as sporting clinics, walking groups, fitness groups, community programs, and events and festivals.
The new precinct will be developed alongside the new library and community hub, which the Government also supported with a $750,000 boost through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program in 2017.
Statewide, the Labor Government has already invested $120 million in its Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, which helps communities develop play spaces, sports grounds and clubrooms.
